Goals of this Site

This wiki is part of GridCity, an experimental project to create a shared environment for collaborative building in JanusVR.

The JanusVR internet browser is just that - a web browser - built for virtual reality. Pages created with JanusVR in mind tend to follow the same overall structure as the rest of the internet: one page can link to another in ways that wouldn't necessarily make sense in non-euclidean space. JanusVR uses portals to seamlessly link one room to another.

This can create some interesting structures, as each web page is its own universe, linked together by these portals. Each universe typically has an individual owner or host. This has upsides and downsides. The main downside is that each "universe" is isolated behind portals: simply seeing your neighbor in his or her yard as you exit your house is next to impossible. GridCity is an attempt to bridge many of these "universes" together and create a connected 3D environment that any user can edit through a wiki. After all, in the real world you could walk into your neighbor's yard and put a note on his door. (Alternately, you can kick over his fence and graffiti the door. Luckily, such graffiti can be easily reverted in the Wikigrid)

This website highly encourages collaborative building or even lone revisions. Either add your own images and models to a cell or use existing material to create a house, skyscraper, store front or even church. Want to create a district of various grid cells to show off statues of your cat? Nice. Go ahead.

GridCity will generally fetch the Wiki page corresponding to a cell's coordinates so that it can be displayed in the JanusVR client, but it's also possible to create unconnected ("interior") pages that you can add portals to/from the cells.

Anyone can add, remove, or change what they like. Others can then come in, and do the same. If someone screws up your work, it's not an issue. You can simply roll back any modifications made to your room that may have been malicious.
